oil rentension valve?? anyone heard of one before, and is it easy to renew. Meant to be worthwhile if getting tapping tappets at tickover and low revs...Thanks.

On the Mk1 diesels the oil non return valve is built into the oil filter - unless that is......you've fitted an aftermarket filter such as a Fram, or those obscure brands that ECP do, in which case it may not have one at all or be of such useless quality leading to oil drainback and low oil pressure at low revs and potential engine damage particularly due to cold starts with drained back oil and next to no lubrication for several seconds after starting

Stick to original filters (VW/SEAT/AUDI branded) or the OEM version made by Mann-Hummel (who make them for VW etc) - these are sold by GSF Car Parts as their "premium" part.

Well i never. Many thanks seat. I will try that, and hopefully it will cut the tapping tappets noise down a bit, although, they still do tap when the oil is nice and warm, so they could just be getting worn, or maybe the oil pump getting worn, but i'l try a proper filter. I'm surprised i'v never heard any garage mention that before, about a valve in the filter...Thanks.

Does it say 'MANN FILTER' in the little box above the price on the GSF website? If so then that's the Mann manufacturer Seatkid was talking about. I've bought stuff from GSF and haven't had any issues, the nice thing is they quite often have price options depending on the quality of part you want.
